Thanksgiving Meal in the Park because Nobody Should Feel Forgotten
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and once again Convicted 4 Christ Ministries will be gathering with our friends at Fireside Park for a good old-fashioned Thanksgiving meal, turkey and all the fixings!
Join us on Friday, November 27th, at 1:30 PM, at Fireside Park,
401 Parkside Drive in Oceanside.
Now, some of you might wonder why we choose to do our Thanksgiving dinner the day AFTER Thanksgiving. Well, there’s a very personal reason for that.
You see, I remember what life was like when I was living on the streets, especially around the holidays.
On Thanksgiving Day, everybody cared. People were generous, hearts were open, food was plentiful, and for that one day you felt like the world hadn’t completely forgotten about you.
But then came the next day.
The holiday was over, everybody went back to their lives, and for those of us still out there, nothing had changed. That feeling of being forgotten came right back.
I remember that feeling all too well.
And if there’s one thing I want to accomplish with this Thanksgiving meal, it’s to make sure that the people we serve know that they haven’t been forgotten just because the holiday is over.
Because people don’t stop needing love, friendship, and a little kindness just because the calendar says Thanksgiving is over.
And that’s where you come in!
We would love to have volunteers join us, whether it’s helping serve food, setting things up, cleaning up, or, perhaps most importantly, pulling up a chair and spending some time with our friends.
At C4C, we talk a great deal about relational poverty, and this is exactly what we’re talking about.
You can feed somebody a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, and that’s a beautiful thing. But what happens when the plates are cleared and everybody goes home?
The loneliness is still there. The isolation is still there.
That’s why we place such a tremendous value on relationships. We want people to know that they matter on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, and every other day of the year.
So come on out, share a meal, have a few laughs, listen to somebody’s story, and maybe make a new friend.
You don’t have to fix anybody, and you certainly don’t need all the answers. Just show up and be present.
Believe me, I know firsthand what it feels like to be forgotten. And I also know what a difference it can make when somebody reminds you that you’re not.
Please contact Michael if you are interested in volunteering!
